Many Voices, One Sunday Bulletin

Here are five ways to encourage other voices to contribute to your Sunday bulletin.

  • Consult with the parish leadership team. Ask for suggestions for contributors and for topics. You might, for instance, ask for articles from a young married couple, from an elderly parishioner living alone, from a religious education teacher, from someone who has recently completed a retreat, from someone who cooks in the local soup kitchen, or from members of the parish outreach ministries who can describe their work.
  • Decide who will select the topics and assign them to specific people.
  • Draw up specific guidelines for the reflections. Do you want them tied to the weekly Scripture readings? Do you want personal background included in the articles? Convey guidelines to all contributors; be willing to discuss their ideas on the topic before they submit their article. Supply a word limit. Offer your assistance with background reading, if help is requested or necessary.
  • Plan far ahead, and establish realistic but firm deadlines.
  • Write thank-you notes.
